Eye Creams For Dark Circles VS. Natural Remedies

In this article, I'll answer one of the most hot-burning questions you may have about dark circles - and of course I am talking about the question: aShould you use eye cream for dark circles or home natural remedies? What does it work better?a

Having dark circles under your eyes can really affect a person's relationships with other people. Most people who have dark eye bags are often times deemed to be people who are depressed and sad. Although this may not be true for some people, it is still the connotation or the misconception when you have dark under eyes.

To prevent these humiliating labels, some people opt for eye cream for dark circles. Other people, however, believe that natural remedies are still the best. In whatever way you cure it, you should first know the reasons why you might have dark circles under your eyes.

Here are some of the reasons why you might have dark circles:

  1. Genes - Some people who have dark circles even though they sleep around 6-8 hours a day and are really not stressed out should start looking at their family tree. If your parents do not have dark circles under their eyes, try tracing it down to your grandparents. It is an unknown fact for some that dark circles under eyes are actually caused by their genes.
  2. Make up - Another reason why you might have dark circles and are looking for remedies such as applying eye cream for dark circles can be your make up. Since smoky eyes are the aina or the trendy thing right now with make-ups, many women and even men put eye liners and dark shadows on their eyes.

This is okay as long as you already have tried and tested the product. However, if you are starting to notice that you have under eyes with dark stains, you might want to check on your make up. There are some make ups that do not appeal to all skin types and cause irritation.

Another reason might be because you are not removing the make up properly, and it causes stains on the under eye area. Make sure that you remove your make up before you sleep.

If you are thinking how you will be able to cure your dark under eyes, you can choose between natural or chemical remedies. The good thing about natural remedies is that they are really safe and you have nothing to worry about.

When it comes to chemical remedies like eye creams, you cannot be entirely sure if you can actually trust it. Why? Since eye cream for dark circles uses certain chemicals unknown to you, you may have some harsh reactions to the product

The skin is a very sensitive organ and any time you try to put something on it, you will risk your skin from getting infections and irritations. If you would like to redeem your under eye clarity, you should just stick to natural remedies that you can find in your kitchen like:

  • Cucumber - put on your eyes for around 20 minutes a day, make sure it is cold
  • Tea bags- put on your eyes for around 10 minutes before sleeping, make sure it is cold also
  • Honey- put a little amount under eyes and let it stay for a few minutes
  • Potatoes and almond oil

About the author: Next, check out an alternative to eye creams for dark circles because you have to understand that dark under-eye circles is a message from your body telling you something is WRONG inside. So why you should spend your hard-earned money on expensive eye creams that address only the symptoms?

What's the best cream for reducing dark circles under eyes?? And the best concealer to cover them up?
I have slightly dark circles under my eyes, and maybe a few lines.

  5. QUESTION:
Effective cream for dark circles under eyes???
I get plenty of sleep, eat very well, and get good excerise. My doctor says I am a very healthy person (and always have been). However, since I was very, very little (like 2) I've had dark circles under my eyes. Usually I can just put on some concelear so they're not as noticeable and I'm good to go, but this weekend I am going away to overnight camp for 2 weeks and I won't really be able to use makeup there as it's a sporty camp and I'll be in the water a lot and stuff.

Does anyone know any good creams dark circles under eyes?? Or any other suggestions... things I'd be able to do at camp though. I've tried tea bags, cucumbers, the cold-spoon thing, and all that but it's been unaffective. Besides, I wouldn't be able to do them at camp anyway.

PLEASE help!!! I'm a very confident person for the most part but I would feel so much better about myself if I didn't have racoon eyes!!! Normally makeup can help, but at camp I can't really wear any... HELP!
    ok everyone... sounds good...

but by the way i think it might look a little odd if i was rubbing hemorrhoid cream under my eyes at camp... lol. thanks for the suggestions guys, but i'm looking for stuff that's proven to work. and it can't be like 0,000, if you know what i mean.

so is there anyone out there that used to have dark circles under their eyes like me but found some sort of wonder product that took them away (or at least made them less noticeable)?? i understand they probably won't go away for good, but...

    • ANSWER:
No miracle cream sorry. It's genetics unfortunatly, as I have the exact same problem.

We have thinner skin underneath our eyes and especially in the inner corner (where I tend to have my dark circles) and because of this the blood vessels show through giving it a purple-bluish appearance making it look bruised.

I cannot tell you how many times I've been asked if I have a black eye. I used to just blame it on getting headbutted in soccer just to get people off me, but eventually I just accepted it and got over it.

I do the concealor thing as well, the stuff by the company called "Benefit" has been by far the best for me so far.

For the issue of not putting any on during your camp, who cares. Accept yourself and others will follow suit. For me it's just one big joke now the whole 'black eye' thing.

Relax and enjoy the sports camp, I'm very jealous!

    I have enough sleep :-)

    • ANSWER:
Oh, give it up nothing works! My grandmother was from Sicily so the dark circles under the eye have plagued me my entire life. They are genetic. On top of that I have allergies and an under active thyroid so I constantly have them and look tired all the damn time.
I've tried everything! About the best advice I have is to put some ice in baggies and hold them against your undereyes in the morning, it helps the blood vessels to constrict--and it is the blood vessels being so close to the skin right there that caused the dark circles.

  12. QUESTION:

  13. QUESTION:
Is there an eye cream for wrinkles and dark circles that does not cause tiny white bumps under the eyes?
I have been trying out different eye creams around my eyes. I've noticed that I've started to form wrinkles, dark circles and slight baginess under my eyes. I've used St. Ives Vit. K cream for the dark circles, L'oreal Hydrafresh, Nivea Eyezone (with Q10), L'oreal RevitaLift Eye and Oil of Olay Total Effects. But I don't use them long enough to see the results. The problem is when I use these creams under my eyes, tiny white bumps (like whiteheads) form on my lower eyelids. I only apply small amounts of the cream. Still, the white bumps appear. Is there an alternative to eye creams that fight wrinkles and bags without causing the skin around my eyes to break out? I have oily, sensitive skin. Please help.

    • ANSWER:
      Hello,

Dark circles and puffy eyes are one of the most frequently asked how-to-cure skincare related questions. They may be caused by a variety of factors like hereditary, lack of sleep, not enough water, stress, age, lack of certain vitamins and minerals in the diet, overloading on alcohol, etc. However, there are natural ways you can dramatically reduce, if not eliminate them. The important aspect to remember is that most skincare problems are internal problems relating to the diet. There is no specific food that causes a skin problem in itself, but it may be certain ingredients in certain foods that cause the skin to erupt.

Apply these techniques to the letter to see a difference in a short time.

Puffy and baggy eyes First, make sure you are getting at least 8 hours of sleep a night, drinking 8-10 glasses of water, eliminating alcohol, and are reducing stress as much as possible. To help with reducing stress, stretch for at least 10 minutes a day, exercise, and do something you enjoy. It is helpful to have a notebook by your bed to write 2 (or more) things you learned or cherished that day. This practice helps to put the day in a better perspective.

Next, you should tweak your eating plan slightly to expedite results. If there is one thing you can do to expedite your results, avoid salty foods. Salty foods are a huge contributing factor to puffy and baggy eyes because they contribute to water retention. Water retention makes the body (as well as the skin) appear bloated and puffier. Under the eye region is very delicate, so the puffiness is more apparent there than on other parts of the face.

For the natural solution: Purchase organic wheat germ oil from a health food store and apply under the eyes and around the eyes twice a day.

Dark under eye circles You should follow the same criteria stated for puffy and baggy eyes to avoid salty foods. However, you may try these secrets.

Secret 1: Mix turmeric powder with raw pineapple juice. The trick is pineapple juice must be taken from a raw pineapple, not a canned version. Mix them together until a paste-like formation forms. Gently spread this mixture under the eyes. Let it stay on the eyes for 15-20 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water. Do this procedure at nighttime for a week. You should see visible results within that time frame.

Secret 2: For serious dark circles, purchase almond oil (the wheat germ oil is more appropriate for puffy eyes) from a health food store. Gently pat the oil under the eyes and around the eye. Do this in the morning and evening to see fast results.

Dietary change: Eat 2 cups (or more) of organic spinach everyday for either lunch or dinner. It's convenient and best to buy frozen organic spinach or organic spinach leaves, as non-organic spinach is high in pesticide residuals. In addition, eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup of raw almonds (must not be roasted or salted) 3 hours after eating dinner. In addition to eliminating salty foods, doing these dietary changes will quickly speed up the results.

      I hope this helps.

      Remedies For Dark Circles

      * An instant dark circles remedy is to use the correct concealer. The shade should be lighter than your foundation. If circles are very dark, choose 2 shades lighter. Great choices can be Revlon New Complexion Concealer, Estee Lauder Smoothing Skin Concealer, Cover Girl Smoothers Concealer, or Neutrogena Smoothing Skin Stick.

      * Apply a good Vitamin K cream. Vita-K Solution gel or Peter Thomas Roth Power K Eye Rescue help strengthen capillary walls around the dark circles to make them less visible.

      * One should go for laser treatment only if the case is chronic. Lasers can increase production of collagen thereby thickening skin to make dark circles less visible.

      * Home remedies for dark circles can include the following:
      1. Drink plenty of water to combat dehydration.
      2. Wear at least SPF 30 sunscreen to prevent more sun damage.
      3. Get enough sleep.
      4. Leave cold teabags, cucumber or potato slices, or washcloths with ice cubes on eyes for 15 minutes regularly.
      5. Take iron supplements if anemic, but consult your doctor first.
      6. Identify the allergens and avoid them. Whether it be pollen, food, whatever, avoidance is the best solution to this. And avoid rubbing your eyes.

    • ANSWER:
to get rid of dark circles:

      1. get plenty of sleep nightly. for one thing, lack of sleep tends to cause the skin to become paler (thus increasing the appearance of darkness under the eyes), and it reduces circulation. it’s also believed that too little time lying down is a cause in itself. determine how much sleep you need (it’s usually 7-9 hours per night, but varies throughout different people) and try to get that amount regularly for a couple of weeks to see if that helps. remember that alcohol and drugs can adversely affect the quality of your sleep; abstain from these products or use only in moderation for best results.

      2. establish whether or not this condition runs in your family. dark circles are believed to frequently be hereditary. this doesn’t mean that you can’t do anything about the conditions, but you should be prepared for minimal success actually trying to get rid of them. dark circles under the eye may also, in fact, be light carbon deposits that result from incomplete protein digestion. incomplete protein digestion may result from insufficient hydrochloric acid in your stomach that may be caused from a lack of primarily b6 and folic acid. about 30% of the population does not absorb regular b6 (pydroxine) or folic acid and need to take in these vitamins in a different form or another way.

      3. identify allergens. allergies may be the most common cause of skin discoloration under the eyes. if allergies are the root of your problem, you simply need to treat them or remove the allergen (the thing to which you are allergic). seasonal allergy problems such as the hay fever can frequently be effectively treated with over-the-counter and prescription medications. for other allergies the best course of action is usually avoidance. if your dark circles or puffiness are constant, you may have an undetected food allergy or an allergy to a chemical in your home or workplace. talk to a dermatologist for help determining what you may be allergic to. people with allergies also tend again to be deficient in b6, folic acid. taking a multivitamin, if you don't already, may help with your allergies as well as black circles.

      4. treat your skin while you sleep. there are overnight facial masques available that may help reduce the appearance of puffiness or discoloration, but you can also make your own. just before you go to bed, take a washcloth and wet it just a bit with cold water. then squeeze out any excess water and place it over your eyes as you sleep.

      5. apply cool tea bags, an ice cube wrapped in soft cloth, or cucumber slices to your eyes daily. the tannin in tea bags has been shown to reduce swelling and discoloration, and cucumber slices have long been used to reduce puffiness and refresh the appearance of skin around the eyes. lie down, preferably in the morning, and leave fresh cucumber slices or cool, damp caffeinated tea bags (you can refrigerate them overnight so they’ll be ready) over your eyes for about 10-15 minutes. keep your eyes closed.

      6. try to relax the space. you can do this by wetting a cotton swab and then freezing it for a little while. then you should gently wipe under your eyes in the areas where the circles are occurring. when wiping, close your eyes and try not to flinch.

      7. apply an eye cream containing vitamin k and retinol. research has shown that skin creams containing these two ingredients reduce puffiness and discoloration significantly in many patients. long-term daily use seems to have the greatest effect.

      8. avoid rubbing your eyes. usually rubbing of the eyes is brought on by allergies, but not always. regardless of the reason, stop doing it. the rubbing irritates the skin and can break tiny capillaries beneath the skin, causing both puffiness and discoloration.

      9. eat a healthy, balanced diet and drink plenty of water. a whole host of cosmetic problems can be attributed to vitamin deficiencies. be sure to get plenty of fruits and vegetables—especially cabbage, spinach, and other leafy green vegetables. get adequate fluids to improve circulation.

      10. reduce salt intake. excess salt causes the body to retain water in unusual places, and this can result in puffiness under the eyes. too much salt can also impair your circulation, and cause the blood vessels under the skin to appear bluer.

      11. if you smoke- then quit. smoking causes vascular (blood vessel) problems that can not only threaten your life, but also make your blood vessels appear more prominent and bluer beneath the skin.

      12. if this doesnt work try covering the problem up with cosmetics. use a yellow or flesh-toned colour which will camouflage the problem under your eyes. mac do the best ones for covering up dark circles although they are a bit expensive. if you are on a budget i would definately reccomend rimmel. good luck

      hope this helps

      * Hylexin is the first dark circles eye cream developed for serious dark circles. Featured in several magazines such as Marie Claire, FashionWeekDaily, The Wall Street Journal , Star and Luck.

      * One of the greatest remedies for dark circles is Arbonne's NutriMinC® RE9 Repair. It’s a corrective puffiness and dark circles eye cream that does additional benefits – firming, moisturizing and repairing the delicate tissue around the eye.

  31. QUESTION:
What's an effective and safe under eye cream for Severe Dark Circles and Puffiness Around the Eyes? ?
I need a cream that contains vitamin E and C for the under eye that is safe for a 14 year old And besides the cream, what other ways can help get rid or reduce the appearance dark circles and puffiness? Thank you in advanced.

    • ANSWER:
Preparation-H, believe it or not. Preparation-H is used to shrink capillaries, reducing blood flow. Dark circles are caused by capillaries being so close to the surface. It has a special ingredient in it that helps this, but the formula in Canada is different than the one in America. The one in America doesn't work, Canada's does. I don't know about any other countries.

There are all kinds of articles about it. Dr.Oz even addressed it on Opera one time. Look it up if you don't believe me.

    • ANSWER:
      Dark Under-Eye Circles
      Dark circles and deep shadows:
With or without eye puffiness or eye bags, many folks do daily battle with "raccoon eyes." They have varying degrees of darkness that appear under the lower lid and can make even the peppiest person appear dragged out, tired, and older than her years. "There is a true condition known as dark circles,”. "But it's actually not that common.
"If you pull the lower eyelid skin taunt," "and the darkness goes away -- then you know it's purely an illusion. It's not a true dark circle." If, however, pulling your skin still leaves you looking at a dark discoloration, you have true dark circles. A frequent cause of these circles is a thinning of the skin that occurs naturally as part of the aging process. When it does, it exposes a netting of reddish-blue blood vessels underneath. "This is what you see as a dark circle."
And what about vitamin K cream, once believed to be the topical treatment of choice for eradicating dark circles? Sadly, there is scant research pro or con. In one study of a vitamin K based gel published in 2004 in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 47% of the women said they saw mild to moderate improvement. However, since the gel also contained vitamins C and E and retinol, experts say it was hard to tease out just what ingredient was responsible for the good results.
There was never any strong science behind the use of vitamin K, and now, "it's fallen out of favor with consumers as well."
Dark circles, shadows and puffiness; the great cover-up
•When covering dark circles caused by a reddish or bluish cast, choose a salmon- or peach-colored concealer for best results. "Don't use a beige or white concealer," Maron says. "It's only going to make the darkness look gray."
•When looking to conceal puffiness, don't apply a light color or light-reflecting concealer on the puffy area. "Light brings volume out, so it will make the area look puffier,” Instead, use a nylon (and not natural hair) concealer brush to apply a thin layer of lighter product in the crease below the puff, and into the tear trough. Then use a concealer one to two shade darker than your foundation on the puff to reduce the appearance of volume.
•Always put on foundation before concealer. "First, you might not need as much concealer as you think; second, the foundation will only wipe it off,".
•Do start your cover up with an under eye primer. This will help smooth the area and give whatever other products you apply a gripping foundation that will keep them in place.
If your eyes become puffier or your dark circles darker or redder after applying makeup or skin care products, remember that it could be the products themselves causing the problems. If this is the case, look for unscented products (fragrance is often the culprit) and avoid those containing glycolic acid or salicylic acid. Both can be irritants to delicate skin around the eyes and cause swelling or redness.
      Dark Circles
When blood vessels show through skin, they can give the eye area a bluish cast. "Since skin becomes more translucent with age, blood vessels appear more prominent," explains Heidi Waldorf, M.D., a New York City dermatologist. A less common cause of darkness: post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation, doctor-speak for clusters of brown pigment that collect underneath the eyes due to heredity or chronic rubbing (often because of allergies or bothersome contact lenses).
Treatments: Daily use of any basic eye cream will temporarily plump skin so blood vessels are less visible. Eye creams are a better choice for this purpose than regular face creams, because they tend to have a higher concentration of emollients for plumping and a thicker texture, which makes them adhere to the ever-mobile eye area. To improve the look of brown pigment. Try an eye cream with botanical skin lighteners like licorice and kojic acid. We like Bioré Daily Recharging Enliven Cooling Eye Gel, with mica for brightening, and Cosmedicine Eye Specialist Essential Moisture Treatment with licorice extract (, Sephora).
Hydroquinone: These skin care products are used to lighten hyper pigmentation, such as age spots and dark spots related to pregnancy or hormone therapy (melasma or chloasma). Some over-the-counter skin care products contain hydroquinone.
      Kojic Acid
Kojic acid is a more recent remedy for the treatment of pigment problems and age spots.
Best for Hiding Dark Circles: Hyaluronic acid injections. This clear gel filler, known by brand names like Restylane and Juvéderm, is injected directly into the hollows beneath the eyes to even them so they no longer appear as dark shadows. Expect swelling, mild bruising, and tenderness for up to a week afterward (the bruising can be covered with concealer).

  42. QUESTION:
What is a good daily cream/treatment for dark circles under the eyes?
I have accepted that the only way to rid myself of my racoon eyes is to have surgery but I’d prefer not to. Dark circles under the eyes runs in my family and no amount of constant hydrating and sleep will get rid of them.
With that said, I’d like to know if anyone out there uses any good eye creams/treatments for dark circles. All I want is something to HELP with minimizing the appearance of dark circles as well as moisturize the sensitive skin around my eyes.
I currently use Dr LeWinn's Private Formula Firming Eye Cream which has very slight illuminating properties.
Please note that I am 22 years old and I’m not afraid to spend a bit of money.
    Thanks for all your help!
Thanks for all your help guys I really do appreciate it!
I suppose I should have mentioned as well that I have fair skin. I mean VERY fair. So you can only imagine the problem with concealer that I have. Too little, and you can still see dark colour, too much and... well, you know. Still use it but it’s kind of a balancing act.
As for nutrition, and overall well-being, I’ve got that down pat (ie. I’m healthy and clear-skinned). There ARE surgical procedures that I have discussed with my physician such as laser and grafting procedures and we’ve both agreed they aren’t for me as I am still so young and I really don’t want to take any medication or use bleaching creams.
The opaqueness of the circles varies from day to day so I’m really only looking for something I can use as both a “remedy” and a daily moisturizer.
Again, thanks for all your great answers!
