Botox Injections For Headaches
Remove Wrinkles With Botox Injections
To some, looking young transalates to feeling young. The business of looking young makes millions of dollars each year in the United States and around the world. One of the most extensively offered and easy to get treatments is to remove wrinkles with Botox injections.
These treatments are primarily used on the face to remove wrinkles created by repetitive facial expressions such as smiling, scowling and squinting. Horizontal lines on foreheads, crows feet wrinkles around the eyes and vertical lines between the eyebrows are common targets.
The following are some frequently asked questions about removing wrinkles with Botox injections:
What is Botox exactly? Botox is the brand name for botulinum toxin. This is the same toxin that causes food poisoning if consumed orally. However, when Botox is injected in purified, small doses, it can be a safe and effective way of removing wrinkles.
How does it work? To work, it targets and blocks the chemical signals which cause your muscles to contract. The treatment temporarily paralyzes the muscles, the skin flattens and appears smoother and wrinkle free.
Is it safe? Botox has been successfully used to remove wrinkles without any long-term effects since the 1990's with few short term complications.
Who can administer Botox injections? Dermatologists, ophthalmologists and plastic surgeons are the ones who most commonly administer Botox injections. These injections are a medical procedure and must be administered by a licensed provider. To ensure your safety, make sure your provider has the correct license and training and ask them how many procedures they have performed before being treated.
What can I expect during/after my Botox treatment? Botox is administered by injection and does not require a hospital setting. It is virtually painless with only mild discomfort, so there is little to no recovery time. Slight bruising may be visible a few days after treatment but can be easily covered with make up.
What are the common side effects? Common side effects are headache, nausea, flu-like symptoms. There may also be redness and pain at the injection points. Less common symptoms are muscle weakness or drooping of the upper eyelid muscles (which usually resolves itself days after the treatment).
How long will my treatment last? Treatments are temporary and typically last 4-6 months. In some cases, they may last longer. Botox is not a permanent, so multiple treatments are necessary to avoid reappearance of wrinkles.
How much does a typical treatment cost? Prices range from $125-$400 per treatment area. For your safety, it is important to find a quality provider who is licensed, so you may expect to pay more rather than less for your procedure.
If you are deciding whether or not to remove wrinkles with Botox injections, it is important to consider all of these questions before scheduling your appointment. In regards to your health, all decisions should be deliberately made. You may also want to ask yourself if the wrinkles on your face are really something you want to get rid of or if they add character to your face.

QUESTION:
Can anyone cite a source that proves that botox injection to relieve headaches isnt an experimetnal treatment?
PLEASE cite your source, I need reliable, citable sources, I am preparing a case and need help finding the research, if you can just give me a website or book to check that is considered reliable in the medical community I will take that too. Please feel free to tell me if you've had this treatment and if it worked for you too but mostly I need proof that it is NOT an experimental but reasonable course of treatment for severe headaches, the more things I can cite in medical journals etc the better. THANK YOU!-

Well, I've heard that botox injections in your head/neck is really good for curing chronic headaches. My doctor wants me to try it but I'm a little apprehensive.... and it's not that cheap earthier...
What are your experiences with this? did it work for you?thanks for your input!!

ANSWER:
Personally I would rather have the headaches than have botulism injected into my head/neck. there are many other natural treatments for chronic headaches. I would certainly try all of them before even thinking about poisoning myself. Research natural cures for the type of headache you have. (tension, migraine, cluster, etc) Good Luck!

QUESTION:
Botox for Severe Migraine Headaches ! Has any one used it with success???
I have had Migraine headaches since I was about 13. I am 29 now and for the last 9 months I have had them so severe that they are interupting my life. Family, work etc... I have been on dozens of medications, plus oxygen therapy for them with no success. Know my doctor wants to do Botox injections. My Insurance company has agreed to pay for them. But I am kind of reluctant to do it because of the side effects. I work as a nurse practitioner, and have several physicans as friends. But none of us has really heard much about Botox for Migraines. I found a couple of case studies on the web, but the were pretty skechy about the details. Has any one had it done ? Or know someone who has? Or any place I might find more information about it. I really want to find out if it works. I am getting pretty desperate for relief and get back to my life. Thanks Much!

QUESTION:
about botox injections?
9 days ago I had botox injections in 3 facial areas, I was not made aware beforehand of any risks involved. The folowing day I had bruises all round my face from the injections and 5 days after the injections I developed flu like symptoms, i.e. headaches, chills and muscle weakness accompanied by severe fatigue and felt very ill indeed at first I had a bad virus but on discovered on google that I was experiencing a reaction to the botox which my GP confirmed had leaked into other muscles. I am still unwell coupled with the fact that my mouth has gone lopsided and my lower lip white and I have paid £250 for this. Do I have a right to ask to see the qualifications of the aesthetic nurse who administered the botox and does anyone know if there is a body who deals with complaints in this area.-

QUESTION:
Has anyone received botox injections for migraines?
My daughter is 12 years old and suffers from severe migraines. She has had them since she was 6 years old. She has been on all kinds of preventative medicines. She is now taking Inderal, amitriptyline, along with migralief, butter burr root (homeopathic). Her rescue meds are migranal (nose spray), fiorinal #3, DHE 45 injections. She also takes steroids that tear up her stomach. She can take phenagrin and zofran for vomiting. If we don't catch the migraine in time we end up in the emergency room for demerol and oxygen. Her migraines last days sometimes weeks so they admit her to keep her comfortable. Most of her meds are as needed. Her neurologist told her that there isn't anymore drugs to try if these two don't work as prophylactics. Her blood pressure goes up during these headaches, and now it takes a few days for her to get back to her usual self after a migraine. My daughter is a talented, smart (straight A's), kind and compassionate. Please share any info you may have.
She has been tested for allergies, she has also had a hormone study, we keep a food diary too, nothing abnormal. My daughter and her neurologist have a very close relationship.. She has had MRI's w/contrast and w/o. She has had spinal taps, along with every other test you could imagine, blood work, and a eeg. I forgot to tell you that the effects ware off after 2-4 months. I know there is a slim chance this will work and even if it does, it doesn't mean the migraines are gone forever. She is willing to face the side effects if it can help the pain. One of the hardest things I have to do is sit with her when she has one and hear her beg for someone to help. So if there is any chance this will help, she needs it, we all need it. We have had a second opinon at Pittsburg childrens hospital, they agreed with the neurologist. Thank you for your prayers. We are always praying the last one is the very last one. (She also does yoga and bio-feed back).-

QUESTION:
Does anyone suffer from constant headaches and no doctor seems to be able to help?
I suffer from headaches everyday. Some are migraines and some are just bad headaches. I have been seeing a neurologist for years and he is out of options. The only thinf=g that helped me was botox injections but my insurance sompany stopped paying for it. I have now developed a dependancy on fioricet pain medication. I want to be pain free and I want to stop taking these pills but I have 3 kids and I need to be able to function(the fioricet takes the pain away so I can do my daily stuff with the kids and taking care of the house ect...) I am going to a headache specialist in a few weeks. My neuroligist told me a long time ago before the fioricet thing that I suffer from migraines, tension headaches and everyday pain. Is there anyone out there that has a similar problem? I have had cat scans and mri's they can't find anything.-
ANSWER:
Yes - I get them, when my mother was alive she used to get them and my daughter now gets them. The only thing they ever said with mine was it called non-specific peri-venticular white brain matter disease and gave me some perocet.

QUESTION:
Have anyone personally tried Botox injection for migraine? Any relief?
I'm suffering migraine from last 25 years, and had used all kind of options to get relief e.g. herbal and homeopathy, rehab, exercise, and diet control but nothing worked for me. I hardly ever remember any day without the headache.
Many people are suggesting me to try botox, but I want to know if anyone of you had tried this injection?-
ANSWER:
Have you tried going to a chiropractor? I've been going to one for a while and I feel a lot better. I still get my migraine headaches but that's because the bones and muscles in my neck and head/skull aren't stable yet.And most likely not. If you get botox injections in your head it's only going to freeze the muscles and nerves for about 2 or 3 hours. Plus it may not even get to the muscles and nerves causing your migraine headaches.
Also, stop cracking your neck and back if you do.
When you wake up, do you just lay in bed for about a half hour to an hour, or go back to sleep? If so, stop. This can contribute to your migraine headaches.
Start going to bed at like 10 or 11 and wake up around 8 to 9 hours later. If you have to work make the time you go to bed 8 to 9 hours before you have to wake up for work. Taking a melatonin supplement can help you to get on schedule.

QUESTION:
Severe headaches, back of head...never go away?
I have had severe headaches in the back of my head since March 2nd. They are not considered migraines by doctors. I have seen an immunologist, 2 neurologists, an allergist, a rheumatologist a chiropractor, plenty of ER doctors, an optometrist, and opthalmologist, a neurosurgeon and countless other doctors. Pain medications like Vicodin and codeine do not affect it. I have had a CT scan and 2 MRIs, all of which were normal (I have considered Chiari malformation, but my MRI/radiation tech doesn't see it in my film. I have had many blood tests, all returning normal(negative). I wore a neckbrace and took muscle relaxants for a week on the demand on my neurosurgeon. I have also had an angiogram to rule out artery damage. My mom wants be to try Botox injections, but they aren't proven so I'm not sure. Any suggestions for help?-
ANSWER:
I can relate! The only other things I can think of to try are forms of relaxation, in case the headaches are due to stress. Even if they aren't, techniques like self-hypnosis (which you can learn from a pain psychologist) often help with chronic pain when medication can't. It sounds kind of pointless, but I did a lot of self-hypnosis to try treating my chronic headache (different from your in that it varies in location and intensity, but I have had it constantly for the past 2 years), and while it didn't allow me to get rid of it completely, I was able to move it at will to different areas of my head. Self-hypnosis can really work, though--the psychologist who taught me it no longer needs Novocaine at the dentist because she can make herself not receive pain from her teeth during dental procedures out of pure focus. Other than that, biofeedback and acupuncture are also said to be helpful. Good luck! That must have been a really difficult series of tests and such, and I hope you find a cure.

Botox for migraines, side effects??
hubby had injections in the head and neck for chronic migraines this week and is now suffering even worse headaches with no relief from medications. is this normal?? he has called his doc, but they seem to think it is normal and to give it 10 days to work. what is he to do about the severe headache and nausuea?? Help please with info or advise..-
ANSWER:
Botox is not always the miracle that the medical doctors claim, after all it is a poison. Apply ice packs to the area of injections for fifteen minutes at a time, several times a day.keep the diet very light: white rice , soup, bananas and yogurt. Unfortunately you have to wait until this medicine goes out out of the body.

QUESTION:
Advice with my migraines?
After suffering from a constant headache for four years, I went back to my very first neurologist. When I went to him I was suffering from occasional headaches that were completely manageable, though my mother wanted me to see him just in case. He told me I was getting migraines and he gave me Topamax to take for a week. During the week I took the Topamax I developed a constant headache that hasn't gone away since and persists as I write this. It fluctuates through very painful periods and very easy (barely there) periods, but there is always something there.I've seen countless doctors throughout the years to no avail, and I decided to return to this neurologist. He put me on a three day DHE(dihydroergotamine) infusion which reduced my headache to a zero, an amazing feeling that I had forgotten existed. But the night I got off the infusion a headache slowly developed and I awoke with a migraine. I am also on Depakote(every night) and Decadron(every morning for a few days, being gradually decreased).
Since my headache came back my neurologist decided to "extend" the infusion, though no longer with an injection pump, but with the Migranal nasal spray. After using this my headache never went back down to a zero and the other medications don't appear to be doing anything. I now have had a constant headache that is more migraine-ish than my initial constant headache that I had before, as I am now more sensitive to light and sound, etc. I've tried one pill of the also prescribed Axert, which seemed to reduce the headache but not get rid of it.
I am really confused and worried--I had always been suspicious that the Topamax caused my initial problem years ago, though nobody agrees with that because it doesn't make sense. However now I am seeing the same neurologist and, although it has only been a few days(I got off the infusion monday), I'm scared that my condition will be permanently worsened once again by the same person. Am I just impatient? Does the medicine make your condition worse before it starts to work? When I took the Topamax years ago, I stopped taking it after a week. Could my problem be that I don't give these medications enough time?
He intends to give me botox injections next week...
-
ANSWER:
I wish I had a better answer for you, but if several doctors can't fix it, I know I can't.I have to agree that it was not the Topamax that caused your condition to worsen. I also think that a week was not enough time to see if it would work; meds often need several weeks to build up a constant level in your system and produce results.
I do have to address Douglas's answer......migraines are NOT caused by pinched nerves in the neck. If that were the case, pinched nerves can be repaired.
Migraines have many different causes/triggers, including hereditary genes, side effect of meds (which should go away when the med is discontinued; it is also not a side effect of Topamax), depression, high blood pressure, menstruation/hormones, changes in weather/barometric pressure, diet/certain foods and chemicals (including MSG, tyramine, and nitrites), exposure to direct sunlight or fluorescent lights, and chemical fumes.
The trouble is, though, that doctors do not 100% know what causes migraines, and this makes them difficult to treat. I have worked in neuro, and have seen many patients for which all known treatments seem to fail. DHE can help tremendously...you mentioned that it DID help, at least for a time. Have you ever had it repeated?
I would imagine that by now you've done a "headache diary." This is keeping track of what happens when your headache worsens...is it related to certain foods, activities, etc? I know that red wine will trigger a migraine for me (that is a fairly common trigger).
I wish you luck, and hope the Botox helps. I can only imagine how frustrating it is...hang in there. I don't believe this doc "permanently worsened your condition," so please don't go in to any further treatments with that mindset; the mind is a powerful thing.

QUESTION:
I've had a chronic migraine since I had a baby 8 mo. ago. Tried many meds & many dr.'s but no relief. What now?
When I got home from the hospital after having my daughter 8 months ago, I got a terrible migraine headache with aura and nausea- all the classic symptoms. I have had migraines since i was 11 but only a few times of year. The migraine that I got 8 months ago has not gone away. It has been classified as chronic and I've had no relief except when I first wake up in the morning. As soon as I get out of bed and try to start my day it hits me like a hammer. I have been on so many medications that I can't even remember the names. I've tried immitrex, maxalt, migranal nasal spray, intravenous DHE, benadryl, effexor, topamax and more- you name it and I've tried it. I was in the hospital recently for a kidney stone, which they think was caused by one of my medications (probably topamax) and they gave me morphine. The morphine helped the kidney stone, but didn't touch the headache. The doctor at the hospital was baffled. I have seen numerous neurologists. I've even tried botox injections which were quite expensive. I went to a new neurologist this morning and within 30 seconds he told me that he thinks I'm anxious and depressed, and that is the reason I have this migraine. I tried to tell him that it was the other way around, but he got very defensive when I questioned him and was extremely rude. He gave me ten "trigger point" injections at the base of my neck and skull. He wants me to try nortriptyline and recommended that I see a psychiatrist. I feel like he looked at my chart, and because I had not responded to any conventional medication, he decided that I must have a psychological disorder. I am willing to face that I may be somewhat depressed as these migraines have made the past 8 months of my life extremely painful and difficult, but I do not feel that depression is causing my headaches. I feel like he made a snap judgment and had no bedside manner at all. I am on a waiting list for a headache clinic, but it is 6 months long and I am physically miserable. I feel like I have so many migraine triggers at this point that I don't even know what they are. Smells, flashing lights, bright lights in general all make the chronic migraine worse. I have been very disappointed in the doctors I have seen. If they don't have a medication that works for you they write you off. I had a spinal tap after my daughter was born because one of the doctors thought that maybe my epidural had leaked. It came back clean. My MRI and CT scan are also negative. Is there anyone else out there who is going through this? Am I the only one out there who has had an unresponsive headache for so many months with no relief? I just want to enjoy my family and the activities I enjoyed before this headache took over my life.-
ANSWER:
I know exactly how you are feeling right now. I was in a car accident in January this year where I was hit at 40 MPH head on! There were some visible injuries, like my shoulder and my neck, but there were also some other injuries that could not be seen in standard imaging tests. I developed low blood pressure and a very slow heart beat after the accident. I already had migraines, but they worsened to the point that I had a migraine every day. I went through just about every migraine medication on the market with no relief. I finally ended up being admitted to the hospital in February for an intractable migraine after I passed out and smacked my forehead on my granite countertops in the kitchen. I was there for 4 days on a self administered Dillauded pain pump and several other medications that were given to me by the nurses, like DHE. While I was a little more comfortable, mostly because I was drugged up out of my mind, the migraine was still there when I was finally discharged and sent home. This went on for months. Finally, I was given a tilt table test, and they determined that I had Orthostatic Hypotension which is where your blood pressure suddenly falls after you have been standing for a couple of minutes. Mine dropped down to 52/35! And it was lights out for me. They also hooked me up to a Holter Monitor for 24 hours, which watches every single beat your heart makes while wearing it. They saw 45 Premature Valve Contractions and several times, even when I am awake, my heart rate drops into the low 50's and mid 40's. When I sleep it is consistently in the low 30's. Once I started getting treated for the cardiac problems, the headaches resolved, for the most part. But I had to see, and fire, 5 neurologists before I got this diagnosis. While the problems are somewhat cardiac, they are caused by damage to my nervous system from the car accident, which is why I see a neurologist and am being treated by one of them and not a cardiologist.I guess what I am trying to say is that your migraines could have a source that is not neurological in nature. There are instances where cardiac issues, such as a small hole in one of the heart valves, can manifest as migraine headaches. Ask you doctor for a few simple tests for your heart, such as an Echo, which is an ultrasound of your heart and the valves, a Holter Moniter, and a Tilt Table Test. Even if you do not pass out, a TTT can pick up problems such as Postural Orthostatic tachycardia, which is where your heart suddenly starts racing when you change position from sitting to standing. This can also cause migraines.
You need to be your own advocate. You know your body better than any doctor every will. If you find a doctor to be rude and disrespectful, fire him. He works for you. Find another doctor that is willing to listen to you and can think outside the box a little bit. These are the doctors that are great and will help you to find relief. Don't ever let a doctor make you feel like your physical pain is mental if you know very well that it is not. While it is true that psychological imbalances can manifest themselves as physical pain, if you know that your pain is not at all related to your mental health, then you need to make sure you find a doctor that also believe this. If a doctor can not fix your problem with their knowledge and the drugs they know about, then they label you as being a psychiatric patient because God forbid that you have something going on that they are not smart enough to figure out!

QUESTION:
Opinions on a diagnosis for my chronic pain?
Please if you know anything about this or have similar experience... Help me!I am female 23 years old and this started when I was 17 (6 years)
I am tall and skinny, my pinkies are bent, no skin issues, thin wispy hair, I played tennis, and i have an amazingly good memory when the drugs aren't messing with it.I have chronic constant intense back pain across my shoulders, shoulder blades and neck.
this is in the form of knotted muscles and spasms
I have incredible headaches, sleeplessness, tired...I am currently being treated for TMJ (which is a jaw displacement problem)
I am allergic to nutsI also recently had some kind of kidney infection for which i got rushed to the hospital for only to find they couldn't do anything about it... I am still looking into this.
On a more personal note... (cheers to the anonymity of the internet)
I get bladder infections constantly in spite of the large amounts of water I drinkI have vaginal issues that make intercourse burn
I have tried all the "over the counter" methods of relieving my pain acupuncture, massage, physical therapy... Nothing works. Massages help for a short time, but the best is botox injections right into the muscle, but now my body degrades the botox too fast. I pop muscle relaxants like candy and I cant get my hands on more powerful pain meds because I cant get a diagnosis!
Thank you so much for your timely responses doug and kathy, however, these wonderful massage and chiropractor ideas do work, but the symptoms come back. No matter how many massages or doctor visits i get. I also spend time with a tennis ball (because of the size) against the wall and my back for a self massage. As for the pluming issues I am aware of bacteria and the fact that intercourse can cause infection.
I forgot to mention that with the help of frequent massages and botox i was able to finish college with a degree in neuro biology so i am able to understand most of the the high level scientific terms.

ANSWER:
you've got a whole range of separate problems going on - so I'll give you some things to think of for each of them.1. burning intercourse - this is most likely due to insufficient vaginal lubrication, so it will be painful. visit the pharmacy and buy some sex lube to see if that helps.
2. constant bladder infections - these are often the result of bacteria entering the urethra during or after sexual activities. the entry to the urethra is right above the entry to the vagina and then the microbes only have to travel a little distance up into the bladder, so bladder infections happen quite frequently in women. get into the habit of having a pee and a shower straight after sexual intercourse, and be clean about your sexual practices - ie. make sure your sex partner's hands and other parts are clean, make sure any sex toys you use are clean, and don't engage in anal intercourse followed by vaginal intercourse without first changing condoms as that's just asking for trouble. I know this may sound like it sucks all the fun out of sex - but it doesn't sound like you're having much fun just now and these strategies will help cut down on the infections.
3. it sounds like you've got the TMJ under control. hopefully the dentist has made you a night plate to wear on your teeth - I've used one for TMJ and it was very effective.
4. the back, shoulders and neck issues are something that need to be treated together as a group, as they'll be interrelated. this is probably one of those things you'll need to throw everything at. maybe try a posture pillow, as they provide excellent neck support and can resolve a lot of odd neck and shoulder issues. maybe also see a chiropractor - and given your problems - they'd probably want to see you 3 times a week. while I'm not fanatical about chiropractors - they do have their uses and they can help with tough problems over the long-term. you may also need to do some massage in between the chiropractor visits and continue on with the muscle relaxants and pain pills - just to get on top of the spasm and pain. in the long term though - there may be something about your posture that is at the bottom of all this pain, and you'll need to work on identifying what that is and begin to correct your posture during the intensive treatment phase. that way - you may be able to get some lasting benefits.
5. the headaches will most likely be tied in with your back/shoulder/neck issues and the TMJ, however you could try some acupressure to see if you can get some relief that way. the following site has some video demonstrations of a couple of acupressure techniques - I've used the hand technique and it's quite good:-
http://www.chinese-holistic-health-exercises.com/acupressure-for-relieving-headaches.html
I hope I've given you some information to help with your problems.

He's an otherwise healthy 58yo white male with no history of allergies or psychiatric illnesses. He's about 6', 185lbs, and prior to this mystery was in good health. There's a history of severe migraines, slightly low blood pressure, and in the last year or so, a constricted prostate causing urinary issues.
Symptoms:
Starting in mid-2005, he started having more severe headaches/migraines that were attributed to stress. These felt different though and did not respond to medications. Over time, the headaches became frequent to the point of being daily and causing hospitilization. CTs, xrays, bloodwork, ekgs, etc, etc show no cancers, infections, swelling, or other physical evidence to explain the situation.
Notes:
Massive antibiotics seem to relive the pain and botox injections in the neck provide 2-6wks of semi-relief.
Any help would be appreciated!-
ANSWER:
Possibly pressure in the spine. Has he been to see a chiropractor?

QUESTION:
I have severe TMJ...what can I do to stop the pain?
I have had severe TMJ now for about 5 months and I seriously don't think I can handle it anymore. My jaw constantly needs to be popped and massaged every time I open my mouth. I have severe headaches at night and in the morning which causes me to lose hours of sleep many nights. I also have neck pain on occasion. My insurance doesn't cover Botox injections so I can't afford that and I just recently had a night guard made for me by my dentist. The night guard helped a little but just recently the severe pain is back. I dont know what else to do and all my doctor does is prescribe 800mg of Motrin. Muscle relaxants also don't help me. What can I do to stop this pain?-
ANSWER:
Are you using a bite splint made by your dentist or did you buy a cheap on at the store? That makes a difference. Do you wear it every night? I have TMJ and have had no problems since I started wearing one about five years ago. Many people get one and then find them uncomfortable to wear - you get use to them, otherwise you will have to live with the pain.

But there is no way I can afford the hundreds it would cost.
Is anyone aware of anything new- I'm honestly at the end of my road- Thirty years of constant pain is too long.
Thanks for your answers!
Dares to care- I have also tried chiropractors, Some who did full adjustments, others sho did little clicking thing in my ears, saying they were minimpulating the small bones i my ears, neck etc. physical therasipts, acupunurists. I honestly don't know of a specialty I haven't seen.-
ANSWER:
First of all, many things that are diagnosed as "migraines" are actually cervicogenic headaches (neck caused) instead. A misalignment in your neck can cause a headache that mimics a migraine ( even to the light sensitivity and nausea). A "True" Migraine is related to circulation.I would recommend that you try a chiropractor. If it is a cervicogenic headache, realigning your neck should take care of most of the headache. If it is a "true" migraine, the chiropractic still may help( even though chiropractic only helps between 40-50% of true migraines). But it may be another option for you.
I really wish you the best.

QUESTION:
I have just become engaged unfortunately my fiancee can not perform sexually.?
He has been like this for 12 months. He had botox injections for pain in his neck 3 months ago and says his neck is better. But now we can not afford viagra due to 2 of our housemates moving out. I told him I can not marry him without sexual intimacy and he told me he would understand if I found someone else. I dont want anyone else but sex is important to me. When we first started seeing each other he used to chase me around the room and could not wait to make love to me. Now we just cuddle and go to sleep. I dont want to hurt him but this is hurting me and often I go downstairs to cry quietly at night saying that I need some headache pills. He knows that I am upset and I know that he feels less of a man for not being able to get an erection at all. I dont want to have an affair I love him too much and can not imagine life without him. Some constructive advice would be greatly appreciated. I also disliked it when I knew he was taking the viagra, he did not need it before.-
ANSWER:
Hi there! I can see that you have already been given a lot of excellent advice, but I'd like to put my two bob's worth in as well as someone who also needs sex and puts it on the top of my "must be" list.
If you have met your soulmate, and he is everything you dreamed of, by ALL MEANS listen to these people and don't give up on him! A relationship is far far more than sex. When the two of you are in your 60's, 70's, and 80's and sex has fizzled out because of age and mobility, you will still have that wonderful friendship and mutuality that kept you together all your lives IN SPITE of sexual problems. I am a highly red blooded woman who all her life has mistaken a great sex life for emotional fulfillment. I have attracted men to me who were great in bed but who had little interest in commitment and soul level interaction. I would now trade a less virile man for a committed, loving, kind, caring man ANY DAY, and like the others on this forum have told you, there are HEAPS of sexual activities that supplement and even replace penetration, so keep your beautiful man and count your blessings that God has sent you THE ONE, because true love is hard to find, and it is as fragile as a butterfly.
Good luck girl!

QUESTION:
ulcer-ulcer feeling, burning in bolt area where were previously more infection in std. What are the treatments?
Dear Sir,
Incontinuation to my previous information-
I, having age 58, have been suffering from N.G.U since 1987, which
originated from s.t.d. originally, the organism detected was staphylo-
-coccus aureus.V.D Doctor prescribed erythromycin, but it was an under
dose and under time treatment (as per opinion of medicine specialist),
which cured 80% and infection remains within the bolt area (front
part of penis).
2. Since it had not cured fully, the infection relapses. Same condition would
happen incase of other antibiotics i.e. would heal some portion when
antibiotics applied, but infection relapses again after the course.
3. Different doctors both of V.D. and Urology made treatments with various antibiotics of 1st, 2nd and few of 3 rd generations such as ampiciline, doxycycline, ciprofloxacin, sparfloxacin, levofloxacin, nutroforientoin, ceftriaxone, azithromycin etc. available in our country. Ultimate effect of these fillings for along period has created in me acute mental depression (causing vertigo & headache) and I am under psychiatric treatment for seven years with setraline.4. Lastly, I met Dr. Ganesh Gopalakrishnan, professor of urology, CMCH,
Vellore, India where several tests were done as per his advice. One of the
tests EPS analysis yielded staphylococcus coaglague negative. Urothoscopy
was also done, but according to the Doctor no infection was found.
5. He had prescribed medicine i, e, Cephalexin 250 mg (one at night) along
with Z-vit (twice daily) and amittriptaline for 6 months.
6. I started taking medicines on 15.10.04 and continued for 7 months.
During the course of taking medicines-microscopic exams. of Urine
has yielded-
pus cell 3-5 / HPF & epithelial cell 3-5/ HP after 9 days of discontinuation of medicines.7.Although microscopic exams. of urine signifies that infection may not so grave, but the present condition of the disease is that -the burning, pain, irritation, infection-infection feeling and some times biting & itching sensation within the bolt area (i, e, front part) of penis and also uncanny sensation when urine flows are continuing. These sensations, being at the sensitive end of the penis, are resulting in me headache, depression and vertigo.
8.lastly in Dec.o5, I went to Singapore to a urology expert who examined my blood opined that there is no infection.Accorting to his view it is dew to prostate which brings to me such feeling. He put botox injection into the prostate and massaged two times. In In spite of that treatment I still feel such symptoms as before.

Sir, you won't get a good answer here for your non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU), there are very few experts on this site, and more than enough people who have no medical background. You need to be examined and treated by your physician.
Also I wouldn't put identifying information like your name and email address online.

QUESTION:
Extreme migraines and solutions, medicines, doctors, which craft anything that can help heal head aches?
Ever since my mother was 22years old, she began to have headaches (migraines). She is now 45 year old and her head aches have always been constant. She does not know a day without a headache. It is mostly on her left side of the face, along with her eye and jaw. We have tried everything including Botox s around her head, injections, medicine, and we have also contacted people who do witchcraft. Her head aches have gone to the extreme that she has overdosed in pain killers twice, and her face gets extremely swollen. Her extreme migraines have even caused her vomiting and dizziness. We have taken her to UCLA for further studies and we’ve also taken her to other countries for research but no doctors have ever found a cause for her pain. If someone out there knows of anything or anyone that can help us please let me know, we are in desperate need of help… Thank you
I highly appreciate everyones comments, and yes my mother has gotten MRI's, doctors have practically tried everything-

QUESTION:
Headache problem ongoing for years?
About 5 years ago I experienced a sudden tightening of my left jaw, I saw my Dr, Chiropractor and Dentist all found nothing, went to an ear, nose and throat who thought it was an infection and gave me antibiotics, didn't work, ended up at a Neurologist who injected Botox into the muscles on the left side of my face for 3 years because it had progressed to spasms around my left ear and temple. Stopped doing the injections a few years ago saw a new Dr. who thinks it is a combo of a migraine condition and anxiety and has me on topomax and Xanax, it helps but the symptoms are not gone, I wake up in the morning fine and it progresses throughout the day, I go home from work rest for 30 minutes it eases up by bedtime its back. Pressure type headache, tight jaw and spasms around left ear, temple and high cheek area - ANY IDEAS????
Also an MRI was done early on and nothing was found.
These headaches are a constant daily occurance and my blood pressure is checked at every doctor's appointment - never a problem. The headaches are not episodes, they are constant from the time I wake up until I am asleep.-
ANSWER:
Sounds like a condition called temporal arteritis.
Without looking into it...I think there is also a "swooshing" sound in your ear?
Also, lots of people bruxe or grind their teeth. This could cause pain and soreness in the muscles that close the jaw (i.e.-exactly where you are indicating). My dental hygenist said once that it looked like I ground my teeth..and I was like "no-way...not me", but subsequently noticed i do tend to clinch unknowingly all day and while sleeping...not really a grinding...but a clinching.
Don't chew gum, and try not to allow your teeth to touch (top and bottom obviously) unless you are talking, eating, or swallowing.Good luck.

QUESTION:
I suffer terribly from chronic, severe migraines. Today the newest doctor at my clinic said...?
he doubts me because I don't frown and grump all the time. I have had these headaches for the past 19 years and currently see a Neurologist for the treatment of them.I have had many tests of all types and tried everything other than Botox and surgery (I can't afford those two options). When the headaches started I promised myself I would not be rude or hateful to others no matter how badly I feel.
There seems to be no definitive test, only symtomatic means of diagnosis. I have prevention medicatons and some medications that I use at home to abort the heacaches; however, my Neurologist has pre-approved up to six pain shots per month. Now this rural clinic wants me to contact the Neurologist's office EACH time I need a shot and have her call them to okay it. They are already supposed to fax her when I get an injection but state that they don't always 'remember' to do so. Do you think this new request is a bit foolish? The two offices are about 100 miles apart and the only place I get shots is at the clinic.
I have always insisted that the two care givers stay in complete communication. I use only one pharmacy and am certain to keep both offices informed of any medication changes.
I just don't know what else to do. By trial and error I have learned that there are two different shots that are helpful to halt the headaches when they are bad enough to need one. One is Nubain and Visteral and the other is Nubain and Benadryl. I have even found that sometimes Toradol and Benadryl is helpful if I can get it quickly enough.
Any suggestions?

ANSWER:
I am so sorry, you are having these headaches, I even went to a headache Clinic in Ohio where they did every test in the book. Cost my company a fortune in 1973. Well in 1999, I went to Scripts Hospital in California to have an operation, a best friend lived there. of course I had to pass some tests to be able to see if I could stand the operation. They put a Holter Monitor on me for 24 hours and found out I had bigeminy, where an early heart beat follows every normal heartbeat, only sometimes I would miss as many as 6 beats of the lower heartbeat, they put me on Verapamil 240, and when the extra heartbeat was under control, it had the added effect of stopping my migraines. And they were chronic also, I just wanted to die, I even got the book, Final Exit, and I put on all my medical papers, DNR, Do not resuscitate. I really felt like life was not worth living. But I had many friends, and did not go around grumpy either. Something is causing your migraines, they used to tell me I was a type A personality because I kept my house clean. I started having the headaches in third grade, and the doctors back then gave you morphine shots, the Nubain is synthetic morphine. And it does help, but you need to find out the basis of the headaches, to stop them altogether. Of course when I had them, I really did not care what they shot me up with, I just wanted the pain to stop, and childbirth is a breeze compared to a migraine.
I try to keep to a routine, go to bed the same time and never sleep in, you will notice when you are overtired and then sleep in on the weekends, you will get a headache. Do not let yourself become dehydrated, when I feel even a normal headache starting up, I immediately drink a full tumbler of water. I have not had a migraine since 2000 and life is wonderful. I am so grateful, they found out the reason I was having mine. Have you been tested for sleep apnea?
The trouble with migraines is doctors do a Scan of the brain and think, if they do not find a tumor there, that the headache is not dangerous, and they tend to belittle it. But I have had an ulcer perforate and the pain is not nearly as bad as a migraine..
To make you call the Neurologist office each time you need a shot is stupid to say the least, who feels like talking on the phone when in such pain. And I got so it would take three shots of Demerol to even quiet mine. Plus phenigan for the vomiting.
Something is causing these and I hope you find a doctor who can help you discover what it is. Don't give up hope. Life is so great without migraines.

QUESTION:
Severe headaches, back of head...never go away?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------I have had severe headaches in the back of my head since March 2nd. Any suggestions for help?
-
ANSWER:
Actually Botox has been used successfully in headache management for years. But forget what your mum thinks. What have the doctors told you.You have ruled out significant organic issues related to these headaches with all of your consults. They have also told you that they are not migrainous in nature. However, a large number of migraines are misdiagnosed. You did not mention whether anyone had beformed a lumbar puncture for spinal fluid analysis.
Otherwise...
Headaches are complex problems and there is no easy solution.
It is best to find out the source/cause of your recurrent or chronic headaches.
Avoid bright lights and prolonged computer use.
If you are having recurrent or chronic headaches you need to see a health care provider specializing in headache management. They can pick the proper abortive medication for the acute headache and possibly prescribe a preventive medication if your headaches are too frequent.
If you feel you need to see a headache doctor, go to the following site prior to your visit:
www.headaches.org
In the consumer area, see the educational resources tab.
Print and fill out the headache diary as shown.
See the How to talk to your headache doctor page.
I also recommend the pages on analgesic rebound, and diet.
Do not take Imitrex of any one else’s migraine medication without a health care provider’s approval.
I have seen patients with severe hypertensive crisis bordering stroke and cardiac problems due to taking a medication which was inappropriate for them. Also there are some types of migraine which are not recommended for the new migraine wonder drugs, ie. Hemiplegic and basilar artery migraines.
There are many non medication methods which are beneficial also, such as biofeedback, and acupuncture.
Seek the assistance of your primary care clinic in obtaining a referral to a specialist in headaches.
I will tell you that short acting narcotics like vicodin and tylenol with codeine have no role in the management of headaches. They are not effective and usually cause analgesic rebound.
There also needs to be a consideration of a possible psychogenic trigger to these headaches.
As a fellow headache sufferer, I wish you the best.
Go to a dark quiet place and try to relax. If the drugs aren't helping anyway, it's the best you got for now.
IF you can't get any help there are several headache clinics around the country. The most notable is probably the Diamond Clinic.

JUST AN ADDED NOTE Kellycolman20 has been on mutliple sites apparently selling joint advance
it is not an herbal preparation, it is made from shrimp and shark, with some vitamin C and the herbs ginger and white willow bark however, these two herbs are essentially just aspirin.
Glucosamine and Chondroitin are very good products and anyones preparation of these is fine. It WILL NOT HELP a headache except for the small amount of aspirin effect it provides.

I never eat cheese, chocolate or consume alcohol of any kind. I honestly think I have been on every medication, type, including the ergotomines, anti-depressents, calcium channel blockers, anit inflamitories. So many herbs among them fever few, really far too many to list. They had me on ms contin (a slow acting morphine that I used 3 times daily. Honestly everything. I was just wondering if there was any thing "new". I never want to give up trying to find relief.
I do appreciate the time you both took to email me. I try and exercise both mentally and physically everyday, unless I am in too much pain to leave the dark. I have never tried the hot compress on the neck, I have always used ice on both my forehead and neck. I will give that a try.
And I have been through chiropractic care too. Some who did full adjustments, others who did little clicking sounds in my ear, telling me they were adjusting the small bones of the inner ear and neck. Another had me hold a blow dryer and turned it on. He then said I was hyper sensitive to electricity, and I needed to avoid being around any electric appliances or towers. SIGH-
ANSWER:
The four ‘Cs’ of food – caffeine, chocolate, citrus fruits and cheese are the major dietary culprits behind migraine.
·
Red wine and fried foods are also suspected for triggering it.A hot compress on the neck and a cold one on the forehead give some relief. Avoid hot one on the neck if it creates more trouble.
There is no known medical cure for migraine headaches, and often migraine sufferers become discouraged when treatments do not rectify the problem. Doctors often prescribe a combination of medications such as abortive and preventative drugs, to try and prevent the migraine before it begins or lessen the pain when a migraine strikes.
Abortive medications will stop the headache and may prevent the recurrence of symptoms. They should be taken at the first indication of a migraine headache. Over-the-counter medications include Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID’s) such as ibuprofen, ketoprofen, and naproxen as well as aspirin.
Prescribed medications include ergotamine, a vasoconstrictor, and serotonin receptor agonists. Preventive medication is specifically geared towards people who suffer from recurrent migraines, experiencing at least one a week, and includes prescription medication such as beta-blockers, anti-depressants, anti-convulsants and calcium channel blockers.
Natural Remedies
Herbal and homeopathic remedies can offer an effective natural solution and can be of assistance in alleviating the painful and discomforting symptoms of a migraine. Herbs such as Silybum marianus (Milk Thistle), Passiflora Incarnata and Hypericum perforatum (also known as St. John’s Wort) can be extremely beneficial in helping to soothe the recurrence of pounding headaches. In addition, studies have suggested that the herb Feverfew, when used regularly, can help to eliminate or greatly reduce the frequency and severity of headaches and migraines.
